I'm Free arr. Rick Hirsch
"I'm Free" is one of the many great tunes from The Who's rock opera Tommy. With a nod to mambo kings Mario Bauzá and Tito Puente, Rick Hirsch has reimagined this classic rock anthem as a high energy mambo.
"I'm Free" is a great workout for your rhythm section, with authentic mambo grooves cued in all parts. It's a fantastic set-closer that your audiences will go nuts over.
The excellent recording above is by DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra, from their CD Off the Charts. Their recording features Alto & Trumpet on the head (and solos), while the original scoring (for sale here) features a four-horn front-line of Alto, Trumpet, Bari, and Trombone.
