Ave Maria - Bach/Gounod - Concert Band
This original composition is considered one of Charles Gounod's masterpieces. The words are taken from the Latin scripture of Ave Maria. The melodic line is derived from the harmony of J.S. Bach's Prelude No. 1 in C Major, BWV 846 from The Well-Tempered Clavier.
Often performed by soprano voice or stringed instrument, this work may not be so familiar to the wind band world. This arrangement remains true to the original's elegance and beauty, where the sound seemingly ascends to heaven.
The divided accompaniment parts require a very legato style, making sure all notes are smoothly connected. The melody should have much warmth and lyrical quality in extended phrases. Enjoy the alluring timbre of this masterwork every time you perform.
